The mosque was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, it was constructed by him for the members and colleagues of the royal court. The sanctuary of the mosque is roofed with three beautiful domes built of white marble. The mosque area is built of red sandstone and is surrounded by Hindu style architectural series of domed kiosks on the parapet. The Moti Mosque is an amazing example of the blend of both Mughal and Hindu style of architecture and interiors, this being the reason why a large number of tourists frequent this place. It is said that the mosque looks very beautiful and shines like a pearl in the moon lit night.
When visiting Agra one must visit the Moti Mosque to view the attractive architecture and interiors. Though prayers are not offered at the Moti Maszid, but the mosque is open for visitors all seven days of the week, from 5:30 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening. The entry fee for Indian citizens is Rs 20 and for foreign tourists is Rs 750.
